With over 16 years experience within the environmental sector, including 7 years within the Highways division Jenni has developed a professional career rooted within the fields of construction and development. Providing advice on best practice in accordance with current legislation and experienced in client liaison Jenni specialises in providing pragmatic, project appropriate advice. Jenni is passionate about designing strategic and project mitigation and enhancements that support green infrastructure and future health and wellbeing and is a champion for interdisciplinary collaboration in her work.
Jenni is an experienced faunal ecologist who specialises in European Protected Species (EPS) and holds survey licences for bat, dormice and great crested newt and has produced and worked on countless EPS licence applications. Jenni also holds a survey licence for barn owl and is a Registered Consultant under the Bat Low Impact Class Licence scheme. In addition, she has produced numerous mitigation and enhancement strategies relating to faunal species, including water vole, common species of reptile and great crested newt.
Jenni is a Chartered Environmentalist, a full member of the Chartered Institiute of Ecology & Environmental Management (CIEEM), Affiliate member of the Landscape Institute and a member of the CIEEM South West Committee. She has also published articles for the Society for the Environment and regularly organises events and CPD training for the business and CIEEM.
Laura has been working in the field of ecology for 12 years and in that time has provided ecological advice to a variety of clients including housing developers, infrastructure bodies, energy and utility companies and environmental organisations. She is an experienced project manager with a sound knowledge of planning guidance and wildlife legislation.
Laura regularly carries out surveys for protected species on sites and is a skilled botanist having undertaken vegetation surveys across a widespread range of habitats. She has written ecology chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments, has carried out Habitat Regulation Assessments, and regularly gives guidance to clients on mitigation and enhancement measures for biodiversity, in support of planning applications.
Laura is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management.
Tamsyn has been working in ecological consultancy for 6 years, during which time she has worked on a wide range of projects including both small and large scale housing developments, commercial redevelopments and renewable energy projects.
She has extensive experience in protected species surveys including for reptiles, bats, great crested newts and badgers, as well as implementation of mitigation programmes for reptiles, badgers and great crested newts. Tamsyn specialises in producing BREEAM assessments and providing guidance on achieving maximum credits possible under Land Use and Ecology.
Tamsyn is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management and holds a Level 1 Class Licence for great crested newt.
Dr Ken Neal
Ken has worked as an ecologist for 15 years with a principle focus on marine habitats and species, but also has expertise in terrestrial bird survey and conservation management plans.
In his career to date, Ken has worked on some of the UK’s largest offshore wind farm projects as well as numerous other coastal developments. In this capacity Ken has provided services such as seabed ecology surveys, bird surveys, fish surveys and marine mammal mitigation, followed up with detailed technical reports.
Ken has written chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment and is proficient with Geographic Information Systems and statistical analysis using both univariate and multivariate techniques. An experienced ecologist, Ken is qualified to carry out the following:
- Intertidal survey including saltmarsh
- Subtidal survey – grab sampling and drop-down camera
- Marine fish survey
- Offshore (ESAS* accredited), coastal and terrestrial bird survey
- Marine Mammal Observation
- Biological community analysis with multivariate statistics
Gavin is a graduate ecologist carrying out ecological surveys for bats, great crested newt, reptiles and dormice. Over the past 3 years he has worked on commercial and domestic housing projects and commercial developments.
He specialises in European Protected Species and holds survey licenses for great crested newt and dormice. Gavin also has experience of Ecological Clerk of Works, particularly in relation to great crested newt and has surveyed this species using e-DNA.
Having previously trained and worked in habitat management, Gavin manages mitigation contracting on our sites and has the necessary skills and experience to carry out works such as reptile fence installation, scrub clearance and vegetation manipulation.
Gavin is a graduate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
Seasonal Assistant Ecologist
Maddison is a University of Plymouth undergraduate studying Conservation Biology. She began shadowing at Tor Ecology in 2018 and has since become a part of the team.
As well as studying at university, Maddison has been working towards developing her skills and knowledge in protected species ecology and management. Maddison regularly accompanies her colleagues on surveys and aims to become a full time Ecologist after graduating. Maddison is a student member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
